Inspiration Behind Forks, Knives, and Spoons | leahdecesare.comI’m happy to announce that I have an official title and publication date. I’m thrilled that my new novel, Forks, Knives, and Spoons, will be out April 18, 2017.

I’m often asked: What the inspiration for this book?

26 years ago, my mom and dad took me out to dinner before sending me off to college and that was where the idea for Forks, Knives, and Spoons was sparked. My dad, like Amy York’s dad in the story, laid out the silverware in front of me and gave me his lesson on guys.

Taking the concept of labeling guys as different kinds of utensils grew and grew as I told friends in my dorm and around campus.

From the basic three, forks, knives and spoons, came a spectrum of categories from pitch forks and salad forks, butcher knives and butter knives, to serving spoons and slatted spoons. Many of these, and others that friends have added, appear in the novel.

For more than two decades, I’ve toyed with how to best share this fun, whimsical and oddly practical system for classifying guys. The result is my debut novel: Forks, Knives, and Spoons. A novel on finding your perfect mate, a.k.a. your perfect steak knife. Yup, believe it or not, the steak knife is the ideal man. You’ll have to read the book to learn why, and then join in with your friends to create your own silverware definitions.

Stay tuned for news on the book, and in the meantime, subscribe to be the first to see my cover and get snip-its, previews and profiles of different utensils and cutlery, and follow me on social media – all buttons are in the footer.
